Boulder,
CO – July 6, 2001 - Niwot
Networks, Inc., a leading vendor of high performance communication software
announced today that it has released version 5.016 of its Gigabyte Express file
transfer software. Now available for purchase, Gigabyte Express 5 is the
highest performance file transfer product available for the international and
satellite Internet. Version 5.016
supports RFC 1323 achieving even higher broadband Internet throughput for
Windows 2000, Me and 98 platforms.
RFC 1323 presents a set of TCP extensions to improve performance over long distance, high speed paths, such as T1 satellite links. Additional information on RFC 1323 can be found at http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1323.html
“For more efficient
use of high bandwidth, long delay networks we now use a larger TCP window,”
said Bill Gibson, President and CTO of Niwot Networks. “File transfers are
significantly improved for our customers with international and satellite
broadband Internet connections. Both ends must be running Gigabyte Express 5 on
these platforms to realize these benefits.”
“Testing of Gigabyte Express 5 with RFC
1323 support has yielded excellent results”, Bill continued. “Compared to NT’s
FTP over a satellite T1 link with no packets being lost, Gigabyte Express 5
using TCP increased throughput 11 times. Compared to NT’s FTP over a satellite
T1 link with 1 in 100 packets being lost, Gigabyte Express with RELIA™
Technology increased throughput 12 times.
With or without congestion, Gigabyte Express offers the highest
performance in the harsh international environment.”
Background: Niwot Networks’ Gigabyte Express is a mission-critical,
business-to-business bulk data transfer solution that replaces traditional File
Transfer Protocol (FTP). Gigabyte Express was designed and optimized for
unattended operation and reliable throughput over long distance and congested
Internet and intranet connections.
File transfer is peer-to-peer, with Gigabyte Express running at both the
receiving and sending nodes. While
making Gigabyte Express the fastest way to move files over the Internet, Niwot
found that packet loss and delay hobbles the performance of all Internet
applications. This performance can
be dramatically improved with Niwot’s RELIA™ (Patent Pending) Technology.
RELIA™ Technology: Niwot’s RELIA™ technology is an
extension to TCP which adds redundant information that enables the receiver to
reconstruct lost information without requiring the time delay of
retransmission. RELIA™ Technology
also adds support of 32 bit window size. The first application to support
RELIA™ is Niwot’s Gigabyte Express 5 for Windows. RELIA™ Technology uses Packet Recovery™ techniques to
optimize throughput over the congested international and satellite Internet or
intranets.
Pricing: GBX 5 for Windows is available
for $795 for a Single User annual license, $1195 for 2-User annual license, and
$3695 for 10-User annual license.
